to support the Little Schools
In
March 2010 Reiser Relief became aware of a plea for help from Father
Zucchi, the director of the Little Schools
in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Our first priority is providing food, water
and shelter. The school provides educational programs
for over 10,000 children from pre-school to young adults. They focused
on literacy and vocational training to sustain their future. Many of
the children, parents and staff are sleeping outside, in the streets or
in big
courtyards. Most of the children and parents have no tent or food. The
water towers (holding 10,000 gallons) have been destroyed. The food
storage for school is gone. Reiser Relief along with other
nonprofits are providing relief support to the Little Schools. We
have a request for food packets from Feed My Starving Children. The
Little Schools have lost much, many lives and school buildings.

After the earthquake
Tents made with pieces of plastic held up by sticks is now

Some sleep on blankets on the ground; others on concrete blocks
People are afraid to go to their homes because of earthquake

Salesian
Missions Reports are:
The church and parish center of Cite Soleil have collapsed.
Over 13,000 students, families , staff are now homeless victims
More than 800 tents have been set-up and more is needed
Thousands of people are still sleeping in the streets and tents, food,
water, and medicine supplies are low.
Over 200 of students and personnel were killed, many of those killed
were the best and brightest young women and men studying to be teachers.
Fr. Mark Hyde, sdb, director of Salesian Missions, is in Haiti
supporting our missionaries and helping coordinate the relief
efforts. He delivered satellite phones so they can communicate
more effectively.
Fr. Mark, still in Haiti, reports some improvements but the situation
is still critical. Thousands of people are still sleeping in the
streets and tents, food, water, and medicine supplies are low. Heavy
rains are expected to deluge Haiti in March and April which will hamper
progress. There is great fear of the outbreak of epidemic illness.
There was 200 students and staff were
killed in the rubble of the renowned compound that houses the "National
School of Arts and Trades" and other schools operated by Salesian
Missions.
The Salesian Missions not only operated schools for thousands of
students in Port-au-Prince, but services of all kinds for 25,000 of
Haiti's poorest children.
